Neighborhood enhancement matching grants offered by the city, are now open to condo groups. A motion was passed to allow condo groups, meeting specific requirements, the opportunity to compete with neighborhood associations.
A replica cabin, built on the same spot as the original, is being torn down by a homeowners association. The cabin represents the home where the mother of Abraham Lincoln was born and is need of repairs. The homeowner association where the cabin is located, cannot afford the upkeep and said that their agreement with the historical society has expired and they are preparing to take it down.
The resident of a homeowners association will be reimbursed the $300 fine she had to pay to rescue her car from impound. Having just moved here from Texas, the resident had a heart attack and her car was not driven or moved for a few days. Also, her tags were not from her new home state so it was towed and impounded. After a fight from her family, the association has agreed to pay the fines.
In 2009 a law became effective that would allow the tenant-shareholders and unit-owners of a state historical district or a designated landmark to earn tax credits for making repairs to the building.
Builders of more than 70 townhomes, are being sued as they are accused of building them on collapsible soil. The association claims they were negligent since the engineers warned the builders beforehand that the land was not stable.
